Nassau Bay hires manager
City ends probation period for Stall a month early
By PAULINE DURYEA
NASSAU BAY - City Council Monday promoted David Stall to the position of city manager .
Though Stall had one month remaining on his six-month probation period as acting city manager, Mayor Johnny Jones said the council moved up the appointment because Stall was doing a good job managing the city.
"He's done such a great job we've moved it up a month... We 'just feel he's done an excellent job," said Jones after the meeting.
In October, the city manager for one-and-a-half years, James McFellin, resigned in what was considered a mutual agreement. Jones said at the time the city wanted a more hands-on type manager.
Stall then moved from his assistant city manager position to take over as acting city manager. But council set a six-month time limit in which to monitor Stall's performance and consider promoting him.
That period came to a close a month early as council unanimously appointed Stall to the city manager position, effective Feb. 16, ironically enough on his birthday.
"I picked that day," Stall said.
With the promotion comes a substantial pay increase to $62,000 from his $54,000 as acting city manager. As assistant city manager Stall made $43,200.
A city employee for 15-years, Stall said he felt he had a good working knowledge of the city and its departments. He has served in every capacity except chief in the police department and as both as assistant fire marshal and fire marshal.
"I think I bring a lot of back - ground knowledge...having worked for the city for 15 years,'. Stall said.
In addition to the pay increase, Stall receives a $500 a month car allowance, a $100 a month car telephone allowance and 10 days of vacation time.
