City Manager, City of Columbus

Columbus, Texas

Chief administrative officer and treasurer of full-service municipal corporation. Columbus is a rural community located on IH-10 about 70 miles west of Houston.  Columbus is the county seat of Colorado County.

2000–2002

Owner, Victorian Fence & Millworks

Fayetteville, Texas

  •  

Owned and operated a custom millwork shop producing reproduction Victorian period fence pickets, mouldings, rails, columns, battens and custom trim.

Designed and built a one-of-a-kind milling machine to mass produce popular turn-of-the-century design wooden fence pickets.

1998–2000

President & Board Member, Cinema Film Systems

Upland, California

Directed all functions and divisions of third largest U.S. manufacturer of commercial motion picture projection and film handling equipment. Scope of responsibility included engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and finance.

Led development of new projection technology and introduced the motion picture exhibition industry's first electronic controlled 35mm film projector.

Company dissolved with industry-wide collapse of American motion picture exhibition expansion.

1991–1998

City Manager, City of Nassau Bay

Nassau Bay, Texas

Chief administrative officer of full-service municipal corporation. Nassau Bay is an affluent waterfront community (suburb of Houston) located adjacent to NASA's Johnson Space Center. Directed 17 departments including finance, information systems, public works, utilities, building & zoning, public safety, courts, parks & recreation, and tourism.

  •  

Successfully restructured financial management practices, making possible the retention of an "A" bond rating despite announced down grade. Returned financial stability to all funds. Secured spotless audit and management practices review. Followed with six years of operating under budget while exceeding budgeted level of service and project completion goals.

Drafted industrial development corporation legislation subsequently placed on ballot and approved by voters.

  •  

A regional leader in tourism development. Initiated and brought to fruition a high profile Sister City relationship that spurred international tourism and business investments. Earned position on state birding trail. Created several successful festivals. Attracted an internationally prominent museum exhibition never before available anywhere in the world (highly sought after by the National Air & Space Museum among others).

Established Nassau Bay as the recognized arts center of the Clear Lake region attracting privately funded public, visual, performing and electronic arts.

Concurrently held position of Fire Marshal.  Licensed as head of agency (Fire Marshal's Office), Fire & Arson Investigator and Peace Officer (1987-1998).
